How to Find the Right Job For You
Content
You are finding the right job for you. You don’t know how to go about looking for or finding the job that’s going to be best for you. I’ve been there before. When I got fired, I had to find a job that fit me well for the time I needed it. I wanted a job that paid me enough and felt easy.
When I lost my job, I spent the time between jobs taking all of these steps. I got clear and when I went to finding jobs, I was clear with those jobs too. I knew I needed certain time off for my wedding and for coaching needs, and if a job wasn't willing to work with that, I would move on. I'd move on easily, without drama, knowing that what I needed was out there somewhere. Because even if that job paid a lot, if it didn’t work with the things I needed, then that job wasn’t for me.
Job finding can be a little stressful for some people. People are probably telling you to do it this way or that. Here are some steps that might work better.
- Get clear about what you need
This means determining how much money you need to make. Keep in mind that some companies include bonuses and insurance packages. Decide what kind of hours you are willing to work and what vacations you know you need ahead of time.
- Decide how you want the job to feel
Think about what you want your job to be like for you. Do you want it to be easy? Or exciting? Maybe you’d prefer a job that challenges you and pushes your boundaries. There are other things to consider: Do you want career advancement opportunities within this job? Or are you okay accepting whatever position you get as it is? Decide how you want the job to feel.
- Look when it feels easy or neutral - don't force the job hunt
When you force things, they tend to not work out. Or if they do work out, they don’t feel very good. So in job finding, you must flow with it. Only get on your job posting websites when it feels easy or neutral. It might not ever feel awesome to go job-finding, and that’s okay. We’re just looking for the least amount of resistance when doing the actual searching. So by only sitting down to your computer to look when it feels neural or easy, you’re setting yourself up for more success. More success in finding the best-fit job for you right now.
- Stay open
Once you're clear about what you want, open your mind a bit. Search outside of your usual criteria. The universe knows what your minimum is for what you need, so now you can look for that and above! This also means being open to accepting a job that will fit you for this moment, not your forever job. Sometimes we just need a job to bridge us to the next awesome thing (which is what I did!).
By following these steps, I found the perfect job for me. It pays me twice as much as my last job and I work HALF as many hours! I have so much flexibility to do what I want and need whenever I want to, and I am having fun at the job too!
